| Effective September 8th, the USPS is implementing new tabbing regulations for letter size booklets. A booklet is defined by the USPS as having a permanent bound edge, either saddlestiched, perfect bound or in some way having an end where the pages are attached together
(spiral bound booklets are not automation compatible.) The USPS is requiring that tabs not be perforated, so Mailing Services will start to use paper tabs on booklets. Booklets not meeting these standards must be mailed either at
the non-machineable postage rates or via straight first class.
At this time, this only impacts letter size booklet mail pieces. However, USPS is making noises about making these same standards
applicable to folded self-mailers in the near future (probably by next year if not sooner.)
